ABOUT PLAN-IT

Aldred-Steve.jpg

Steve Aldred is the Sole Proprietor of Plan-It Geographical and works with a number of Planning Consultants and Municipalities throughout Ontario. After graduating from St. Mary's University in Halifax with a degree in Geography, he continued his studies at Sault College specializing in Geographic Information Systems. Steve received his Applications Specialist Post-Diploma Certificate from Sault College with Distinction.

After a brief stint with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in Midhurst he moved directly into the GIS Specialist position at the County of Huron. An opportunity to work in his hometown of Barrie, Ontario facilitated his move to Meridian Planning Consultants in 2005. While with Meridian he worked on numerous municipal planning projects over the 8 years he was there. "Working with Planners such as Bob Lehman, Nick McDonald, Jim Dyment, Celeste Phillips, Wes Crown and Chris Jones, who were highly regarded in the Planning industry, really shaped the direction of my GIS career. They were willing to take the time to explain the planning policies they were implementing and how they applied to Provincial legislation. This is where my passion for working with municipalities was born." With the merger between Meridian and MHBC in the works Steve took on a new challenge and adventure by taking a position with the City of Edmonton, in the Urban Planning and Environment department. Work here centered around Transit Oriented Development as the LRT system in Edmonton was experiencing tremendous growth. An addition to the family, and a little homesickness brought Steve back to Ontario in 2014 where he has been operating Plan-It Geographical out of Barrie and Collingwood.
